Traveling London on a Budget

London Hotels for the Budget Traveler

Despite it being one of the most expensive cities to visit and live in, London still remains a sought after travel destination for a myriad of reasons. And if it gives you any comfort, the capital is actually number 12 on the list of the top 20 cities to visit around the world, so whether you are a budget or luxe traveler, London will welcome you with open arms.

If you’re planning on visiting this beautiful city and are still looking for a place to stay, here are three hotels you might be interested in:

Hotel 55 – £65 per night
Although cheaper than most international chains in the area, boutique hotels in the capital are generally pricey, but there are a few exceptions. Over in Hanger Lane is a minimalistically designed accommodation, a contemporary hotel situated in the suburbs. Here they have 26 cozy, air conditioned bedrooms, with several in-room amenities. And if you’ve got a sensitive back, know that you’ll fall asleep in comfort with high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and an orthopedic mattress.

The Hoxton – £69 per night
A dream come true for those on a tight budget, The Hoxton on Great Eastern Street is known for its occasional £1 room sales, which usually sell out after a few minutes. Nonetheless, the regular rates are still within an affordable price range. With services like mini breakfast delivered to your room, they’re all about being more than just a place to sleep. It’s a place of work and play, engaging their guests with hotel neighbors through events. As part of the Soho House Group, you’ll also have plenty of bar and dining options where you can hang alongside the locals.

IBIS LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT HOTEL - 0794

Hotel Ibis London Heathrow Airport – £55 per night
Good quality hotels that are also affordable around Heathrow are quite difficult to come by, since most of the accommodations around the airport cater to business travelers and only have bargains available for weekend stays. Luckily, there are a couple gems for passengers on the cheap, like Hotel Ibis. Just a stone’s throw away from Heathrow and attractions like the Royal Botanic Gardens, Hotel Ibis offers all the basics of an airport hotel, including parking, complimentary Wi-Fi, and breakfast.

  1. Suprisingly I found London to be resonably cheap. It’s small enough to walk most places. Probably cheaper to live in then simply travel it

  2. Hi Vikram & Ishwinder, loved an article written about the two of you by Nomadic Matt.
Really people like you only give courage to a lot of us to dare to dream differently.

My husband & I are also avid travellers & are planning to take a extensive trip at least for 6 months by quitting are jobs.
I wanted to ask you guys a question that how can one obtain a NOC from the employer for VISA purpose if one is planning to quit the job for travelling. Since we have travelled extensively through Europe during our annual vacation so we understand the importance of the Employer NOC – any suggestions on how do we tackle this issue?

    • Hi Rashi,

Thanks for writing to us. NOC can be tricky and simple based on your rapport with the employer.
We follow a simple rule, with an Indian Passport, more paperwork is always better than less paperwork.

Even if you are planning to quit the job for travelling, the employers will happily issue the NOC.
The only funny part is, in most cases HR or Managers do not know how to respond to such requests.
If you give them enough time to soak in the idea, they will happily issue it.

What I have responded is somewhat generic, based on the information in your comment.
